Are We Alone?

Are We Alone?

A while back I read an article that stated, “Astronomers say they are on the verge of finding planets like Earth orbiting other stars, a key step in determining if we are alone in the universe.” The article went on to state that within ten years they should be able to discover the first Earth-like planet where life could develop – through the advancements of new space telescopes. For years, people have been trying to answer the question, “Are we alone?” Governments, universities, and independent groups have spent countless amounts of money in grants for institutions to set up various forms of deep space radar / listening equipment in an effort to pick up some form of intelligible sound. Again, all of this effort has been and continues to be done to answer the question, “Are we alone?” After all, they contend, “Based upon what we know today about space, its vastness, its stars, its planets, how could it be that Earth is the only inhabited planet?” Back in 2013 NASA observed an “earth-like” planet 2700 light years away – but could it sustain life; and again the question was raised, “Are we alone?”

One truly doesn’t have to look very far if one wants to find the answers to the question, “Are we alone, and is the Earth the only inhabited planet?” The answers are found in the Bible.

Genesis 1:1-5,

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

Genesis 1:9-10,

“And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.”

Genesis 1:16-18,

“And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.”

Genesis 2:7,

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Genesis 2:21-24,

“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Genesis 2:1-3,

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

Thus, we conclude that planet Earth was the only planet created by God that would sustain human life.

The Scriptures also state that beyond God and the angels, man was the highest intelligent being that was ever created – and that all of the rest of creation was designed to sustain man – and to manifest the power, greatness, and personal Almighty God. The Bible also states that we are not alone, because God sent His only begotten Son Jesus to Earth to become the Savior of the world. In fact, from Heaven, God the Father stated the following concerning His Son Jesus.

Matthew 17:5,

“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”

From Creation God declared He is with us – and His message is, “Hear my Son.” Jesus thus stated, as recorded in John 14:6,

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Have you listened to God, and through faith trusted in His Son Jesus Christ?
