Have you ever considered why there are so many different faiths and religions today? While it is true that many of these “faiths” and “religions” are cultic in nature, many also deny the existence of God (especially Jesus being the Son of God) and/or they worship many gods. The vast majority, however, believe they have the answer or means for one to secure an eternal home in heaven – and/or to live eternally on this earth. (Note: Many also contend, “all roads lead to heaven“; therefore, they state, “make sure you’re on one of these [roads]“. This naturally concludes that all faiths and religions are equal in nature and results – yet, are only different in outward appearance, customs and traditions.)
In order that we answer the question of “why there are so many faiths and religions” – we must go back to the beginning. In Genesis 2:16-17, we read that God warned Adam not to eat of the “tree of knowledge of good and evil.” For in doing so would with surety bring forth death and separation from God. In Genesis 3 we find that Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden fruit (immediately they were separated from God spiritually) – and they were banished from the Garden of Eden (that is, banished from His presence). In Genesis 4 we find that Cain killed his brother Abel (because God did not accept Cain’s vegetable sacrifice – though God did accept Abel’s blood sacrifice) – and the Lord cursed Cain to be a fugitive and a wanderer. Genesis 4:16 states, “And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod [wandering], on the east of Eden.” Cain’s journey took him far from Jehovah’s presence physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And as you continue to study Genesis you will find that this progression away from Jehovah was evidenced in his offspring.
Consequently, the journey away from God has led man to devise his own means to bridge the great divide that separates man from God. Hence, today we have all these “roads” which promise, “[this] is the way“. In Genesis 11 we have evidence of this fact. In this passage we find that the people believed that they could build a tower up to heaven.
Genesis 11:4 states,
“And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
But in Genesis 11:9 we find that the Lord “changed their language and scattered the people throughout the face of the earth“. Therefore, God rejected “this road” as an acceptable path. And the journey away from God – from the beginning – has caused man to “build many towers” in an attempt to return to the presence of God.
In John 14:6, Jesus the only begotten Son of God stated, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” God’s only “road” into His presence is through the shed blood of His Son Jesus.
For John 3:16 states,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus further warned in Matthew 7:13-14 that there is a “straight way” and a “broad way” where He stated, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Yes, there are many “roads” available for you to travel on – but God states there is only One True “Road”. Are you on the right “road”? In other words, have you personally trusted in Jesus Christ the Only Savior and path into heaven? If not, you are on one of the “roads that leads to hell“. Why not choose God’s only path unto salvation today such that you too can have a home in heaven; lest you find yourself eternally separated from God in the lake of fire [because] you chose to travel the wrong “road”?
