This is the time of year that many students will receive their diplomas of graduation. Some will be graduating middle school and high school; some are preparing to enter college; while others will be graduating college and preparing to enter the work force. But the question must be asked, “What has the student [learned] from their learning experience?”
Too often students sail through their classes without ever allowing the class material to stick or to cling – and often they fail to allow the learning experience to teach them “how to learn”. But as our students graduate, let our prayers be that whether they seek a path of higher education or to enter the work force – let us pray that they have learned to first seek the Lord with their heart, mind, and soul.
Prayer and the application of God’s Word are two necessary ingredients in one’s life – if one is to truly have success in their life. Let us pray that our graduating students have learned through God’s Word a very important principle to guide them through the days ahead.
Colossians 3:23-24 states,
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
Let us pray that our graduating students have learned to trust in the Lord to lead them and guide them each step of the way – for if they try to go it alone, disappointment and despair is lurking around the corner.
Consider the words of Proverbs 3:5-10,
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Let us pray that our graduating students have learned that God’s wisdom is to be sought after. While it is true that there are many things in this life for one to seek after, God’s wisdom will be the most precious commodity that one could ever seek to find. Notice the following verses which describe the importance of seeking God’s wisdom.
Proverbs 4:5,
“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.”
Proverbs 4:7,
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
Proverbs 23:23,
“Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”
Ecclesiastes 1:13,
“And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.”
Ecclesiastes 7:19,
“Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.”
Ecclesiastes 7:25,
“I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:”
Each graduating student has now closed another chapter in their life – yet, they have opened a new page – one that is ready to be written upon. The question before the graduate is, “What will be written in this new chapter? Will it be much of the same, or will it declare a life lived for the Lord through the wisdom of the Lord?” May our graduates be thankful for all that the Lord has done for them and through them to achieve their successes thus far – as well as in the coming days.
Congratulations to our Graduates!!
