Did you know that the Book of Isaiah contains more prophecies about the Messiah [meaning: Christ, the anointed; the Savior of the world] than any other book in the Old Testament – and did you know that the name “Isaiah” means “the LORD saves”, or “the LORD is Savior”? In Isaiah 42:5-9 we find the following prophecy concerning our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
“Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
In Luke 2:25-32 we find the fulfillment of the above prophecy,
“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”
In Isaiah 9:6-7 we read another prophecy concerning the Messiah,
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
Of all the names that Isaiah prophesied God’s Son would be called, “The Prince of Peace” stands as one of the greatest names of all! This name [Peace] declares God’s reconciliation of man to Himself through the redemptive work of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
Throughout the Scriptures we find that Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy and that He alone is our peace. In Ephesians 2:14-16 we find that Christ reconciles [bridges the gap between God and man] both the Jew and the Gentile,
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:”
In Colossians 1:20 we find that peace was afforded to all of mankind through the shedding of Christ’s blood on the cross of Calvary,
“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
Then, in Philippians 4:9 we find that the God of peace is with us at all times – as we mature in the Lord as disciples through God’s Word and His Spirit,
“Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”
We pray that you have trusted in the prophesied Messiah – God’s only Son Jesus Christ – unto eternal life; for as Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:25-26,
“The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”
She trusted in Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Have you?
