While perusing through a newspaper I happened upon an article titled, “Astrology still a popular way to look into what destiny holds”. The article stated the following, “Astrology, which emerged in Egypt 4,000 years ago, involves observing and interpreting the relationships of elements in the cosmos. It is founded on the concept that events occurring in an individual’s life follow a pre-determined set of patterns and cycles. This highly complex art, which was practiced by the Greeks and Romans, almost died out, but was revived during the medieval period. Astrology was de-emphasized in the 18th century, but wasn’t completely extinguished. Today astrology is used to primarily classify, define and organize individual identity and needs.” It should be noted that astrologers are people who pretend to foretell future events by means of astronomical observations. It was fancied that the stars and planets had an influence, for good or for evil, on human affairs, and that certain aspects and relative positions of the heavenly bodies were full of meaning to those who had skill to interpret them. These superstitions were highly prevalent among the Chaldeans, Assyrians, Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Arabians, and were closely connected with the worship of the sun, moon, and stars. But isn’t it remarkable that only those who are skilled astrologers have the ability to interpret your identity, provide you answers to your questions, and to chart your destiny?
The Bible (God’s Word) teaches us that it alone is good for all people, in all places, and at all times – such that we are all assured that within its pages every person can find their identity, find answers to all of their questions, and one can find their destiny.
“Our Identity Without Christ”:
Romans 3:10,23,
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one…For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
“Our Identity With Christ”:
John 1:12,
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
1 John 3:1-2,
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
“Our Answers”:
2 Timothy 3:16-17,
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
Romans 15:4,
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
Psalms 119:130,
“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
“Our Destiny”:
John 3:36,
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
John 5:24,
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
John 8:24,
“I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”
God’s Word also has something to say concerning those who trust in astrology and divination.
Isaiah 47:12-14,
“Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.”
God is very clear in His Word in whom we are to trust for our identity, our answers, and our destiny; it is He in whom we are to trust.
